In both Microsoft Skype for Business (formerly Lync) and Lync for Mac 2011, presence statuses include Available, Busy, Away, and Do Not Disturb.

Your status is based on your O365 Calendar and Skype for Business activities.

Lync for Mac 2011 does not have an option to set privacy relationships.

The default privacy relationship rule applied to contacts who belong to the same organization is Colleagues.

The default privacy relationship for users outside of the organization is External Contacts.

Changing the default privacy relationship must be done from Skype for Business.
